Magnetic filtration technology for the engineering sector

The AutoMag filtration system can be utilised on any machine tool to remove ferrous and para-magnetic particles that cannot be removed by conventional cartridge and membrane media.

The main benefits of using Automag compared to cartridge type filters are:

  • Low running costs
  • No maintenance costs
  • No downtime associated with changing filter media
  • No loss of fluid due to replacing sodden cartridges
  • No back pressure, even when the magnetic cores are totally saturated with contamination
  • No mess! Because Automag attracts even sub-micron sized particles extending the useful life of the fluid.

Incorporating high intensity rare earth magnetic material, pole concentrators and proven magnetic circuit geometry, the rods generate controlled, deep reaching magnetic flux fields which produce a staggering 9,000 Gauss. These flux fields attract and retain any magnetic particles that are suspended in the fluid.

The Automag utilises a patented magnetic core shuttle configuration to attract and retain problematic contamination. The system is fully autonomous and can even recycle any collected fluid dispensed during the cleaning purge cycle.

The Automag self-cleaning high-intensity magnetic filter will appeal to any precision parts manufacturer who requires continuous 24/7 operation.

Recent installations have proved that the system can even remove nuisance abrasives generated by grinding wheels.

Units are available that can process 50ltrs-5,000ltrs/min. Operations that will benefit hugely from this system are grinding, honing & lapping.

Eclipse also manufacture units that can be manually cleaned. For more information on these or the Automag or for a free site survey please call 0114 225 0555.

Advantages of Automag over existing filters

Existing filtration technology use filter media, such as cartridges, socks, candles & band paper, to remove contamination. They are often limited to the size of particle they can trap, with smaller particles able to escape removal.

They are also susecptible to blinding'. This occurs when the medium is totally saturated with contamination and results in reduced flow, back pressure, and in some cases bursting of the filter medium.

Magnetic filters are unique in their filtration ability: as long as the offending contamination is magnetic or para-magnetic, (this is a state associated with normally non-magnetic material such as 300 series stainless steel that shows magnetic properties when work hardened i.e machined or ground etc) the particle, irrespective of micron size, will be attracted & removed from the fluid being processed.
