Quality control at plastics manufacturer

Resin and thermoplastics manufacture Albis UK Ltd has installed Eclipse Magnetics metal detection and separation equipment at its hi-tech Knutsford plant to maintain its products' exceptionally high quality.

The company supplies medical, civil engineering and food industries so product quality is vitally important. Eclipse metal detectors have been installed on the material feeds of extrusion machines to eliminate any contamination that might be present in the recycled plastics used. The detectors are capable of detecting particles down to 0.3mm and efficiently remove any contaminates despite the high material feed rates.

Eclipse separators have also been installed at the base of the extrusion machines' feed hoppers to ensure that any contamination from the machines themselves does not enter the process line.

Andy Downes, Albis UK Process Development Engineer responsible for the purchase of the detection and separation products turned to Eclipse Magnetics when the potential for contamination was realised:

“Mindful of our hard earned reputation, we identified the minute potential for the presence of metal particles in our recycled raw material. Having considered several proprietary solutions, we eventually decided that Eclipse Magnetics offered the optimum metal elimination solution, at the right price."

The success of the Eclipse Magnetics detectors lead to the purchase of the separators:

"Encouraged by the efficient performance and low maintenance of our first Eclipse system, we have recently installed further units to the raw material feeds of further company extrusion machines.”
